Syllabus

Japanese II continues to develop the basic communication skills needed to interact with native speakers of Japanese. With a focus on written communication, this course emphasizes oral communication, listening skills, pronunciation, and everyday vocabulary. Students will continue to improve reading and writing skills through the further exploration of ひらがな、カタカナ、and 漢字. Classroom activities, projects and discussions will offer insight into Japanese society and culture.​

Textbook / Supplies

Required supplies:

  • A sturdy 3-ring binder (at least 2-inch) with plenty of loose-leaf paper (college rule)
  • Non-mechanical pencils and erasers
  • Colored pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Dry erase markers
  • Eraser or sock (for dry erase board)
  • Highlighter
  • Blank note cards and a note card ring​​

Recommended:

  • Japanese-English dictionary (Recommended: Kodansha's Furigana English-Japanese Dictionary)
  • Personal Kanji Dictionary (Recommended: The Kanji Dictionary)
  • Pencil Case​
